How to Benefit From Adversity and Defeat

by Anonymous on November 14, 2009

What we focus on largely determines where we go in life

There comes a time in our lives where we face problems and hardships that we don’t have any control over. A phenomenon larger than ourselves shapes almost impossible obstacles that we can’t overcome through normal and direct means. The more we try to resist them, the more power they seem to have over us and the more we try to accept them, the more complacent we seem to become.

If you’ve ever had to deal with a situation like this, remember that you are not alone. Sometimes bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. That’s the way it is and that’s the way it will always be. We all have to face setbacks that we have to learn how to overcome somehow.

“It is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so.” — William Shakespeare

Sometimes unpleasant things just happen because of the complexity of the world. In an objective sense, it just is. There’s no guarantee that life will always be easy.

Losing weight is easier than most people think

I know that losing weight can be a difficult and arduous task if you don’t have the right facts. There’s so much information out there but most of it is either misleading or fails to get to the point. Eating less is good but how do you measure how much less to eat? Exercise is beneficial but what if you’re counteracting its affects without you even knowing it?

Basically, above all else, there is only one way to lose weight: Consume less calories than you burn. That is numero uno. Any diet plan that deviates from this basic point will inevitably lead to failure. And fortunately, there are only a handful of things you need to do to achieve that basic goal.

Losing weight is easier than most people think. And this article will cover how I lost 80 pounds and why anyone else, no matter who they are or how their life situation is, can do the same thing.

Don't let anything take away your happiness

From time to time, we let experiences in our lives affect us too negatively. They catch us off guard, the mental pictures from those experiences repeat themselves in our minds, and we feel disheartened or worried about them all day, all week, all month or even longer in extreme cases.

These negative emotions can cause detrimental changes to the biochemistry of our bodies by releasing stress hormones. These stress hormones can slow down our rate of digestion, cause our blood pressure to rise, weaken our hearts, cause life-threatening diseases, and accelerate the signs of aging. According to some scientists, ongoing negative trauma can even alter the genes in our DNA causing adverse affects in our offspring two generations down.

What a heavy price to pay for something that is already torturous enough! But what if there was an effective way to stop negative thoughts from causing such inordinate damage to us? What if there was a practical way to stop negative thoughts from repeating themselves indefinitely? Keep reading and you’ll find the answer to those questions.

  3. You’re insecure about how your voice sounds as you give your speeches
  4. You’re scared of saying something inappropriate or disadvantageous
  5. You think the audience might look down on you because they seem smarter or more successful than you
  6. You’re forced to talk about things that you’re not used to talking about
  7. You’re not sharing your honest opinions about your subject matter and it shows
  8. You’re not passionate about what you’re talking about
